It is thought by many cultures that the process of breathing is the essence of being. A rhythmic process of expansion and contraction, breathing is one example of the consistent polarity we see in nature such as night and day, wake and sleep, seasonal growth and decay and ultimately life and death. In yoga, the breath is known as prana or a universal energy that can be used to find a balance between the body-mind, the conscious – unconscious, and the sympathetic-parasympathetic nervous system. Unlike other bodily functions, the breath is easily used to communicate between these systems, which give us an excellent tool to help facilitate positive change. It is the only bodily function that we do both voluntarily and involuntarily. We can consciously use breathing to influence the involuntary (sympathetic nervous system) that regulates blood pressure, heart rate, circulation, digestion and many other bodily functions. Pranayama is a yoga practice that literally means the control of life or energy. It uses breathing techniques to change subtle energies within the body for health and well-being. Breathing exercises can act as a bridge into those functions of the body of which we generally do not have conscious control.
An example of how life affects physiology:
During times of emotional stress our sympathetic nervous system is stimulated and affects a number of physical responses. Our heart rate rises, we perspire, our muscles tense and our breathing become rapid and shallow. If this process happens over a long period of time, the sympatric nervous system becomes over stimulated leading to an imbalance that can affect our physical health resulting in inflammation, high blood pressure and muscle pain to name a few. Consciously slowing our heart rate, decreasing perspiration and relaxing muscles are more difficult than simply slowing and deepening breathing. The breath can be used to directly influence these stressful changes causing a direct stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system resulting in relaxation and a reversal of the changes seen with the stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. We can see how our bodies know to do this naturally when we take a deep breath or sigh when a stress is relieved.
The breathing process can be trained:
Breathing can be trained for both positive and negative influences on health. Chronic stress can lead to a restriction of the connective and muscular tissue in the chest resulting in a decrease range of motion of the chest wall. Due to rapid more shallow breathing, the chest does not expand as much as it would with slower deeper breaths and much of the air exchange occurs at the top of the lung tissue towards the head. This results in “chest” breathing. You can see if you are a chest breather by placing your right hand on your chest and your left hand on your abdomen. As you breathe, see which hand raises more. If your right hand raises more, you are a chest breather. If your left hand raises more, you are an abdomen breather.
Chest breathing is inefficient because the greatest amount of blood flow occurs in the lower lobes of the lungs, areas that have limited air expansion in chest breathers. This kind of chest breathing which is rapid, shallow, results in less oxygen transfer to the blood and subsequent poor delivery of nutrients to the tissues. The good news is that similar to learning to play an instrument or riding a bike, you can train the body to improve its breathing technique. With regular practice you will breathe from the abdomen most of the time, even while asleep.
Note: Using and learning proper breathing techniques is one of the most beneficial things that can be done for both short and long term physical and emotional health.
The benefits of abdominal breathing:
Abdominal breathing is also known as diaphragmatic breathing. The diaphragm is a large muscle located between the chest and the abdomen. When it contracts it is forced downward causing the abdomen to expand. This causes a negative pressure within the chest forcing air into the lungs. The negative pressure also pulls blood into the chest improving the venous return to the heart. This leads to improved stamina in both disease and athletic activity. Like blood, the flow of lymph, which is rich in immune cells, is also improved. By expanding the lung’s air pockets and improving the flow of blood and lymph, abdominal breathing also helps prevent infection of the lung and other tissues. But most of all it is an excellent tool to stimulate the relaxation response that results in less tension and an overall sense of well-being.
Abdominal Breathing Technique:
Breathing exercises such as this one should be done twice a day or whenever you find your mind dwelling on upsetting thoughts or when you are experiencing pain.
* Place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen. When you take a deep breath in, the hand on the abdomen should rise higher than the one on the chest. This insures that the diaphragm is pulling air into the bases of the lungs.
* After exhaling through the mouth, take a slow deep breath in through your nose imagining that you are sucking in all the air in the room and hold it for a count of 7 (or as long as you are able, not exceeding 7)
* Slowly exhale through your mouth for a count of 8. As all the air is released with relaxation, gently contract your abdominal muscles to completely evacuate the remaining air from the lungs. It is important to remember that we deepen respirations not by inhaling more air but through completely exhaling it.
* Repeat the cycle four more times for a total of 5 deep breaths and try to breathe at a rate of one breath every 10 seconds (or 6 breaths per minute). At this rate our heart rate variability increases which has a positive effect on cardiac health.
Once you feel comfortable with the above technique, you may want to incorporate words that can enhance the exercise. Examples would be to say to yourself the word, relaxation (with inhalation) and stress or anger (with exhalation). The idea being to bring in the feeling/emotion you want with inhalation and release those you don’t want with exhalation.
In general, exhalation should be twice as long as inhalation. The use of the hands on the chest and abdomen are only needed to help you train your breathing. Once you feel comfortable with your ability to breathe into the abdomen, they are no longer needed.
Abdominal breathing is just one of many breathing exercises. But it is the most important one to learn before exploring other techniques. The more it is practiced, the more natural it will become improving the body’s internal rhythm.
Using breathing exercises to increase energy:
If practiced over time, the abdominal breathing exercise can result in improved energy throughout the day, but sometimes we are in need of a quick “pick-up.” The Bellows breathing exercise (also called, the stimulating breath) can be used during times of fatigue that may result from driving over distances or when you need to be revitalized at work. It should not be used in place of abdominal breathing but in addition as a tool to increase energy when needed. This breathing exercise is opposite that of abdominal breathing. Short, fast rhythmic breaths are used to increase energy, which are similar to the “chest” breathing we do when under stress. The bellows breath recreates the adrenal stimulation that occurs with stress and results in the release of energizing chemicals such as epinephrine. Like most bodily functions this serves an active purpose, but overuse results in adverse effects as discussed above.
The Bellows Breathing Technique (The Stimulating Breath):
This yogic technique can be used to help stimulate energy when needed. It is a good thing to use before reaching for a cup of coffee.
* Sit in a comfortable up-right position with your spine straight.
* With your mouth gently closed breathe in and out of your nose as fast as possible. To give an idea of how this is done, think of someone using a bicycle pump (a bellows) to quickly pump up a tire. The upstroke is inspiration and the down stroke is exhalation and both are equal in length.
* The rate of breathing is rapid with as many as 2-3 cycles of inspiration/expiration per second.
* While doing the exercise, you should feel effort at the base of the neck, chest and abdomen. The muscles in these areas will increase in strength the more this technique is practiced. This is truly an exercise.
* Do this for no longer than 15 seconds when first starting. With practice, slowly increase the length of the exercise by 5 seconds each time. Do it as long as you are comfortably able, not exceeding one full minute.
* There is a risk for hyperventilation that can result in loss of consciousness if this exercise is done too much in the beginning. For this reason, it should be practiced in a safe place such as a bed or chair.
This exercise can be used each morning upon awakening or when needed for an energy boost.

Sheila Trecartin I have been meaning to write this somewhat short story for a wonderful woman who helped me more than I can put into words. Sheila was my angel several years ago and still is. It would try to make this story short and sweet even though it was not short and parts were not sweet at all.
In June of 2008 I received a call from a neighbor on one of the hottest days in June about a mother cat bringing her two kittens across a busy highway into our apartment complex to drink the water that I just by chance set outside the night before for some strange reason. I intuitively knew something was wrong. I went out in the backyard of the complex and walked across the busy road to the development to the sparsely wooded area by the homes to try to find this mother cat and her kittens…
I had no idea where the cat and kittens could possibly be. I walked through the woods and with the gift that I have of intuitiveness I found her with the kittens in some ones back yard. . The next thought was what am I going to do? I knew she was feral and I knew these kittens would not survive it through the summer. I also knew that if Gray was not caught she would continue breeding and not only that she would probably die too.
I was never the person to walk away from injustice or to ever give up. Animals have always been the greatest love of mine since I was a little girl. This situation with Gray and her five kittens was something I could not turn my back on. I knew some people in my community that focused mainly on cats as far as rescuing neutering and spanning, finding homes for kittens and re-releasing the adult cats. I am very torn about the trap, neuter and release way of thinking. The reason being is I know that feral cats is a generic name for a cat that has been abandoned, born in the wild from an abandoned cat and frightened to death. Their intelligence, ability to adapt is amazing to me and I will tell you why as I go along with Gray’s story.
So from June 3, 2008 to approximately July 8th my rescue began and ended. Each morning I would set the trap and I would check it three times a day and then I would lock it open during the evenings because, I did not want to kittens hurting themselves by spending too many hours frantically trying to get out of the cage for hours overnight. I fed Gray and the kittens and made sure they had water twice a day. I also made sure Gray had colostrum because she was pretty run down and underfed and had to keep her strength up to be able to recuperate from nursing the kittens. I think that they were still nursing a bit from her and had just begun eating food when I had found them.
It was upsetting, nerve-racking and exhausting each and every day. I was frightened to death because she had moved the kittens I had no idea where she could have taken them. Then my special little gift kicked in and intuitively told me to walk in a certain direction through another area of woods. I saw in my mind was an old run down deck with steps, the kittens and gray with them. I continued to walk and followed my instincts and I still get chills as I write this as I stepped out of the woods there in front of my eyes was that beat up old deck with the steps, five kittens and there dark gray, mother cat. That was the day I named her “Gray”. What an incredible mother, it was amazing to watch her with them. She always had the kitten close by her. I remember one morning walking into the backyard and there was a bit of a clearing by an old dead, hollow tree, the kittens were playing, This happened on early morning in the morning mist it almost appeared as if they were dancing to the sounds of the birds and the beautiful noises from the woods. I can still picture that moment in my mind and there lie gray very close by watching them.
I would sit where Gray and the kittens where the broken deck was with the holes just big enough for Gray and the kittens to have shelter and protection from the rain. It just so happened that the people who lived there were away for a month, there are no coincidences. Plus jumping further a head after I caught everyone I took a friend to show him where I found and trapped them and the deck had been completely rebuilt which meant the cat and kittens would have lost another home.
I would sit in the yard where they all where and Gray would lay maybe 20 feet away from me always but she came every time I came there and called her. She made sure the kittens where out of sight, I would see them often because I would put their food down and hide on the side of the house and peek around the corner and one by one would come out. There was this deep soul connection between Gray and I that I have not felt with an animal since I found my childhood dog, Sheba, was a pure bred German Shepherd that we thought was born in the woods that became my best friend and never to ever be replaced until now,
I think my main worry was that I so desperately wanted to catch the kittens first but, that Gray may leave and the whole cycle would begin again with more kittens. One by one the kittens were caught and placed in a non-kill shelter where they took finally all the kittens and Gray, made sure they were healthy, neutered and spayed for a fee of $350. That shelter was a disaster but, they did place all six of the kittens but, the way they handled Gray was the most upsetting thing I ever saw in front of my own two eyes, when I brought her in to be check out and neutered. Let’s put it this way I would never go there again unless I was getting an animal out of “SAVE” in Princeton, NJ. They do not know how to handle or take good care of cats at all!!!
It was the last kitten that I was terribly worried about. It was gray and the last kitten that I named Bear left to be caught. I tried and tried to catch the kitten before Gray, but I couldn’t so I trapped Gray, leaving her last kitten alone. I had a hard time sleeping at night. It took about a week to catch her/him. She was very light in weight so, I finally decided to put a small bottle of water only slightly filled on the trip of the trap and that was the answer. That night after I was so exhausted I caught the last kitten. The funny thing is I checked every kitten before I would put them in a small cage with food and all that was needed in my cage that was in the complex basement. It was the only place I could keep them because I have two cats of my own and I didn’t know if the kittens were healthy or not. Anyway I would check every kitten to make sure they weren’t injured. Well, the last kitten, Bear was frightened by the group of people that were with me who couldn’t seem to be quiet and took a chunk out of my finger and three nice gashes in the palm of my right hand. Not a good thing to happen to a massage therapist.
I had decided after Gray had been fixed and had her ear tipped that there was no way I could release her back into those woods. I knew it was going to be difficult taming an adult feral cat that was definitely born in the wild but, the only other option was to have her put to sleep. A friend allowed me to keep Gray at her home in a large Labrador crate until I was able to set up what ended up to be three crates put together where Gray lived in my apartment while I trained her to be able to be integrated into my home. Keep in mind I have two cats of my own. I also live in a one-bedroom apartment. This contraption that I put together was almost like a Matisse painting with my grandmother’s mink fur that I couldn’t part with but, could never wear as a top to the cage. There was a purple yoga mat running down the side where she slept. At the far end a liter pan was set up and then in the middle and carry case with a bed in it and the soft cushion on top.
Day after day I would sit and sing to her and play with a toy I called furry on a stick. I sat as close to the cage as I could when it came to feeding time. This went on for ever it seemed. She would go inside the little cat carry case where she sleep on a comfy bed I made her that was inside the Lab crate that she lived in every time I walked in the room. I would try to get my hand close to her in the carrier to give her a treat and she would hiss telling me that’s to close. I backed off and sat it in front of her. I will never forget the first night I touched her. I always had classical music playing in the room. That one night Julie Andrews came on the radio with the song, ‘Getting to know you”. Well I sang the whole song to her and as I reached my hand in the cage she came out and rubbed up against my hand. Please keep in mind I was touching her with furry stick a lot because she was never touched by human hands before. Well I cried for about 10 minutes as I went down stairs in my friend’s house to tell her what had happened. I have to be honest with you that was the first time I experienced the purest joy ever.
I knew I was going to need help because, I never knew anyone that tamed a two-year-old feral ( A cat born in the wild and never touched by human hands.) It also live in an apartment complex, which is one-bedroom and already have two cats and now also own a pug. The thought came to my mind to try to find an animal communicator. There was no doubt in my mind about animal communicators with my own intuitiveness and psychic abilities there had to be someone out there that could help me. I also I’ve always believed the animals very, very special one of the biggest gifts we have. I began my search of course with goggle and came across Sheila. It’s always important for me to see a picture of a person because I always been exceptional with what I call, that feeling! Well, for me I just had the seashore’s picture and I knew she would help me.
I contacted Sheila then set up an appointment. She asked only for pictures of my two cats and my feral cat ,Gray. There were no other questions about the cats, I just set up an appointment with Sheila. It was great to because I could pay through PayPal.
The day came and I always record sessions that are important to me because having ADHD I forget things very quickly. I asked I could tape the session and that was fine. I don’t think I could ever put into words what an amazing experience that first session was. There was no way that Sheila could have known the things that these animal telling her, after all she was in Canada, I was in New Jersey, we were talking on the phone and animals don’t look right?
The animals explained in detail the surroundings in my apartment. They described their interactions with each other and how they felt about each other. Please understand I only have animals. I live alone and I am very aware about my animals. The information that was being given to me by Sheila from my cats telepathically was profound, exact and truly amazing, in fact I truly believe animals are far, far more intelligent and we are. I felt that way about animals before but, this experience with Sheila made it far more clear to me. The beautiful fact is animals live in the moment, nowhere else but the president! We need to learn this from them!
She suggested Bach flower remedies to be used for the cats and myself. The flower remedies help release issued and trust me they work! In fact I now own every Bach flower remedy there is. I have made up some tinctures for friends and neighbors for their animals and they have told me they worked for them too!
Sheila also did some long-distance healing which is called Reiki. I know this works because I took a course and hopefully will continue. The reason I mention this is I am also in the healing profession and I know a good healer when I meet one. I am about to do for another session with Sheila and I just want to say to all of you that, the little, tipped eared once a feral cat is the most loving, special gift I have ever received.
I would’ve never believed that it was possible to tame a two-year-old feral cat. I wish everyone could experienced what I did with Sheila’s help with my little, sweet, gray mother cat. I do not recommend anyone trying to tame a feral cat unless know a lot about cats and have a lot of time and most important the patience of a saint!
Thank you Sheila, thank you so very much. I am glad that I have met such a gifted healer. I can not thank you for what you did for my little Gray! I know there will come a time when I have to put my animals to sleep. I can only hope I still know you and that they can tell you the things I need to know and you can tell them how much they made my life worth living. I know that’s a long way away though, but I will be talking to you soon to hear what my animals would like me to know about them and myself!
The other day a friend and I were talking and we were discussing all the incredible issues I had been facing the week before. As I laughed and smiled and told my story about all the unbelievably stressful things that occurred by friend sat in amazement and just looked at me wide-eyed and opened mouthed. Finally he asked, “how do you stay so positive and calm in the face of all of that turmoil????” I was a little surprised by his question but didn’t need to think for more than a second. I know that I work hard to consciously stay in peace as often as I can. So, my answer was simply, “Peace”.
I am hoping this bit of info will help you find that space and stay there too! You see, my personal view (and I don’t expect anyone to trust this blindly but I do hope you listen to it and take from it what resonates with you) is that we live in a world where all is an illusion. I am sure you heard this theory before. I believe that before we come to this world, we select our lessons and also set some markers for ourselves to help guide us along the way. It is easy to get lost on this journey when we forget to use the light within us all that is naturally present all of the time. Instead, we often walk in darkness and fumble around, trying to find our way. Often suffering needlessly. We hit rocks and trees and sometimes walls (all blocks) along our way. It is only when we choose to use our inner light that we can finally see the path that we set more clearly and walk along with a greater understanding of what we are walking in.
If you consciously stay in your light (stay in your truth) you will find that you sit in peace. You will find it much easier to see through the illusions of life and understand the meaning of your lessons, or at the very least, recognize your lessons. When you understand (or see the path clearly) it is so much easier to walk through without fear. Fear you see, is often the number one thing that holds us back from allowing our light to shine, from allowing us to see our path clearly.
When adversity hits, when you are faced with obstacles, when blocks stand in your way, step back and look at them from a distance. Recognize the lesson, understand the learning that needs to occur, move through without fear and you will find that your life becomes more pleasurable. Your anxiety will be lessened and you will not feel the stress you normally do. It is when we do not trust that we are on the “right” path that we stand in fear and miss that peace.
I am not saying this is an easy task. I am simply suggesting you try to remove the illusion glasses and see what truly and honestly exists. The next step is to deal with the issues by walking forward and taking action. Once you do this you will feel empowered. You will feel more courageous and you will find more positive things will come.
So next time you are faced with car problems, speeding ticket, an irritating boss, slow traffic, etc. then stop for a moment, recognize that you are in an illusion, see the truth of the situation and trust there is reason for all that is existing around you and happening to you. Walk through with light and in truth and all will unfold in a positive manner. As you do this you will feel the peace within begin to grow like a new bud in the spring. As you feed your inner peace you will find so much learning, you will find self-worth, you will find empowerment, you will find your light and you will shine brightly and radiate your peace.
It doesn’t stop there…when you radiate in your peace then you spread that to others. If you feel insignificant and powerless then imagine for a moment that just by standing in your truth, being at peace and radiating that peace, you could essentially positively affect every person that you come into contact with in any way during your day.
Next time you are faced with the question…choose PEACE!
Spread your light, spread your truth, spread the peace.
She lives out side of Marshalls and Staples where Whole Foods is. I am sure many of you have viewed her sitting in her chair. Then I am sure many choose not to……She has lived out side for 20 years. She mildly Schizophrenic but very, very bright, loving and kind and I love her to death. We need money to keep her in a small hotel where we got her into Christmas Eve…Thank GOD!!!!!! She will not go to the Trenton shelters, believe me you would not either she is safer where she is!!!!!!
She will not except help that is the problem!!!! For some reason she trusts and loves me and also a wonderful family I met that was helping her when I met my little lady.
What she needs is money to pay for her to stay in the hotel for the winter. The only hotel she will stay n is a ratty, over priced hotel, close by where she lives outside the rest of the year but, again it is the only place she will stay. There is a lovely woman who had paid for her stays at his hotel for years and now she can’t anymore. I am doing the best I can selling things on e-bay and doing a fund raiser on facebook and will start one soon in my office.
This is not a scam by any means. You are welcome to meet with me I live in Princeton. I am on disability with a metal plate in my neck, so I am struggling but, if I have to I will use what little money have saved to pay for her hotel stay for this winter! I WILL NOT SEE HER SIT OUTSIDE AND DIE. The system sucks and I can not change it but I can do this and I am.
Trust me everything has been attempted to get her further help! That is if she would allow it, she could get it but, she will not take medication. She hears voices and you can not talk sence to you own families people most of the time. If have to trust me here. I am just trying to help get through this winter and she will be sitting outside of Marshalls again as soon as it is warm enough for her under her conditions not mine. Please also do not flood her there either. I do not want her thrown out of there. By the blody grace of God the owner of that coplex allows her there with all her bags.

My Little Lady one afternoon when it was close to 100 degree’s outside she came for diner!
We will need to get a Massage Therapy on a regular basis. I cannot stress this enough. The pace we maintain reflects in the condition of our bodies. Whether you can wrap your mind around this or not, we are not separate from our surroundings, we are part of all of it. Every thought that we think sends out of vibration, every action has an equal reaction. I think that once we realize and learn to look within stress can be minimized. This takes time and Massage Therapy helps you to do this.
I bring these things up because Massage Therapy for one hour out of your day, makes you lay down quietly and as the massage therapist touches each part of your body you become aware of what is going on with that body part. I cannot stress how many people are shocked at the tension they hold in their glutes, (butt) once they become aware of this it becomes part of the conscious mind and you soon realize that sitting in a static chair that does not move with your pelvis, (part of the gluteal area) causes a great deal of tension, which turns in to tightness in the lower back area. If this area is not worked on the problem increases, then the good ole doctor gives you pills to pop or sends you to PT. This is not the answer!
We all seem to think that Massage Therapy is a frill, it is far from that. It helps you to stay healthy because, it increases circulation, relaxes the tension in your body to allow blood flow, lymph flow and your body to function at a healthy level without chronic pain. I hear people say they cannot afford Massage. I say you cannot afford not to have Massage. I make sure personally to get Massage Therapy twice a month. I cut back in other areas of my life because, my health is first on my list of priorities. What I see time and time again are people who wait until they’re in chronic pain to come to see me. That means they have to come far more often to get their bodies relaxed, pain free, injury free and back to healthy. The solution is very simple, getting a Massage at least once a month. This will prevent you from getting to this chronic stage.
I’m also amazed when people go to their doctor, the first thing the doctor does is send them to a physical therapist. They slap on your back electric stimulation, moist hot pads and have you lifting weights. Then what happens people come to me because the physical therapy did nothing. Physical Therapy does not release tight muscles, what usually happens is, you tighten up even more by lifting weights. I have had a few doctors that I know personally, who know that massage therapy, heals and relieves trigger points that are not even touched by PT’s.
I think the problem is Physical Therapists are they are threatened by Massage Therapists for what reason I do not know. We should all be working together to help people to heal. It is not a competition of egos, it is about educating people how to take care of their bodies. This is through eating properly, drinking plenty of water, exercise/yoga, meditation, walking, deep breathing, (I would like to mention, the artofliving.org, this is where you learn to meditate and breathe stress away and I hold this in highest regard and rate on a scale of 1 to 10 definitely a 10. It is somewhat a miracle) There are Art of Living courses all over the Princeton area and surrounding areas.

I am a firm believer that yes we are all going to at some point expire. My hopes are that much more aware human beings will evolve. I can not disagree that we may all have weak genetic links. The idea is to become aware of what they are. That means paying attention to our bodies. Yes, also look at our family of origins health issues.
I truly believe eating relatively organic and to the smarty pants out there that means not Skippy peanut butter get to a health food store and get it without sugar. Read the labels of what you eat. I know I like sugar at times but, I don’t want it in my apple pie. Learn to cook and cook a head of time and freeze servings in containers.
Exercise, we can all come up with an excuse. It is a must! Women need weight bearing exercises that helps with bone loss and guess what we will need strength in our arms when we get old, to push ourselves up from a chair. Stretch! The computer is great for this Google stretching and presto, wonderful simple stretches you can even do in a chair.
Walk, run, practice yoga, dance, jump rope, lift weights, do squats while standing at your desk. Get up from that computer and stretch. Breathe, Breathe, Breathe the most important of them all. Express your feelings! Learn how to communicate clearly. Get professional counseling when you are stuck emotionally or need to work thought family issues.
I am not writing what I am writing to offend, blame or gain a popularity contest. I am speaking from what I have seen with clients and through my own personal experiences. This is to show you how the power of words can affect you in a negative matter. I have experienced a lot of clients with Fibromyalgia the main symptom of Fibromyalgia is pain all over the body for more than 3 months. It is common for people to experience achy muscles that feel tender to the touch and morning stiffness. The pain of Fibromyalgia is a “deep” muscle pain and may be felt as: aching, shooting and burning.
The pain may not always be the same. For some people with Fibromyalgia, the pain and stiffness are worst when they wake up, improve during the day, and increase again at night. But others have all-day, non-stop pain. For many, the pain gets worse with physical activity, stress, or anxiety. Fibromyalgia patients may be more sensitive to the light and the temperature as well.
Along with overall pain, people with Fibromyalgia have many specific parts of the body that are tender to the touch, also known as tender points. These include: the front and back of the neck, mid to the upper back of the shoulders, elbows, upper portion of the buttocks, hips and knees.
This is where my theory comes in. I believe no one should own a name a doctor came up with. Your body hurts! Period. You don’t have to own this for life. It hurts you today. The body is all connected, and part of your body is called connective tissue. You have muscles that are attached to bone, tendons and ligaments and they have a memory. That memory is attached to pain in this case of this thing some doctor named Fibromyalgia. I hope your following me here. My belief is that this all started with some sort of trauma.
When our emotions are not expressed where do the emotions go? Into the body and more of the same things continue to happen, usually unhealthy things. Why? because we continue to push that “thing” away by not dealing with it. We split off from it but, our wonderful bodies keep trying to tell us, pay attention to me I hurt. Oh, you won’t listen I’ll hurt louder.
How do I know this because I hurt all over at one point too. I drank the pain away. Presto, I got sober and the pain got really, really bad. I needed to get that pain out and I listened to my body for the first time at age 26 after drinking and doing drugs since I was 12 years old. I went to Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings and dumped all that toxic childhood pain and sought out professional counseling.
To be honest Alcoholic’s Anonymous was like being in hell for me most of the time but, I just kept going. I didn’t do a lot of what they told me and frankly I am glad I didn’t. I found a good therapist. I did not befriend too many people there. I went talked, cried, screamed and went 3 times a day some days. Most important I listened and I took what I liked and left the rest. What was interesting is as I talked and cried I could literally feel the pain lift from my body. A.A. meetings saved my life I truly believe!
There are people I have shared my belief with about this pain body that occurs with trauma of any kind and they think I am crazy. No, I just believe that you can truly let it go with doing some soul searching. It is never just cut and dry. All the things listed above we play a part in this natural cure process. It’s not always popping pills and some times pills are needed but, maybe some really good fish oils, vitamin D, a good liquid vitamin, liquid B complex, Massage Therapy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture and a really good nutritionist for eating.
There will be plenty of painful emotions in our life times and if you feel the pain, cry, scream get it out I truly believe we can all live healthier lives by communicating and emoting not masking the problem with pharmaceutical drugs and crippling diseases. The body is in dis- ease so let’s help ourselves heal with words, action, whole foods and movement forward in a positive direction.
I am sure I will get some crazed responses but, before you say or think them sit with what you just ingested and know that all the above can not happen over night it didn’t for me. Try just giving it a chance. There are also really good nutritionists out there that can be really helpful or do your own research first like I do.
Imagine a world where everyone took responsibility for their actions? Every day people did random acts of kindness though out the day. A planet that held the ability to communicate articulately with the highest regard and to understand each feeling we have in order to understand ourselves better. We would hold ourselves accountable for what we created around us and make changes for better outcomes. To clarify what I just said; choose our net work of friends wisely, build our self-esteem and become our own best friend and parent, set goals, know that we deserve respect and to give respect in return. We all have the ability to say I’m sorry or I did not mean to hurt you. All of us need to own you wrong doings and harsh reactions. We have the ability to act instead of react. I truly believe that this is what we all need to focus on and become experts at or the world around us will continue to get worse.
How many people do you think realize that every time they think negative thoughts such as; I’ll never find this or I’m not good enough for that or I’ll never have enough to get that, see that those thoughts become there reality because that is what they believe they deserve with extreme passion. Why not change those thoughts to, I am strong, I am powerful, I am totally capable of healing myself. I am beautiful, I am perfect. I have endless ideas that will bring money to me effortlessly and my bank account continues to grow. My job/career is not my only source of income and I am infinitely creative. I guess to most it’s much more comfortable to think negatively, why, because we are programmed negatively and it is time to make a shift in our thinking and use more of our brains change comes from within and the thoughts we think.
I sit here scratching my head, (not really) wondering why all these years why I didn’t realize how capable I was to shift my thinking. I actually do know why, a mentally ill mother who I felt responsibly for. I saw it to the end and feel wonderful about my decision and forgive my family. Now my life is free to be everything I dreamed of…I am free, open to all possibilities. I choose my thoughts. I choose how I react. I choose to make this a wonderful day. I choose to be kind and loving to those around me. It is a choice for all of us and it is up to us to realize the power behind choice and choosing. I’ve been paying close attention to the thoughts that I think, how I respond and how not to buy into other peoples projections. My family thought me a very good lesson as all of our families did. It is much easier to excuse yourself and walk away from a person screaming at you. It is also very important to ask yourself why you choice to stay a victim or stay in a relationship that is not working…
I’m working on changing the way that I think and the words that I use everyday. I highly recommend a DVD and audio version of the “Secret”, by, Rhonda Byrne, for everyone to watch every day for at least a month. I mean really listen. Make a vision board of all the things that you want to happen in your life. The home you want to live in. What your surroundings would be. The relationships you want. Become the athlete and artist. It is effortless if you trust that all the answers are inside and the ones that you don’t know ask for them. Thinking thoughts that are positive and realizing that the only thing that limits us is our thoughts. We can have everything we desire if we are willing to do the foot work and not project that it will be hard, because it doesn’t have to be, we make it hard.
I have been in bodywork, healing and working on myself for 24 years and I mean really working on myself to heal. I truly believe the only way to be happy is to deal with the garbage that we ruminate on in our heads. Heal our childhood wounds and truly get to know who we are and understand why we react to the things we do. We must do this work in order to become whole before we can truly be content and at peace with ourselves. Then we can do the work we love because it will come from pure hearts. When the work is done we know longer even talk about it. The pain is gone and it is for none of us to judge another’s healing time unless you have walked in there shoes. I know very few that have that deep compassion most judge, only the wounded healers understand for the most part.
I worked at over 1000 bodies easily since 1994 and I see a lot of commonalities. Most people come to you as a last resort; I’m hoping that will change. They go to doctors and are given muscle relaxers or sent to physical therapy and months later there at the same spot, in pain.
I am hoping that after repeating the same thing over and over again and getting the same results people realize that is the definition of insanity. I’m hoping people come to me first and we can resolve the issue and I can give educated suggestions on how to not have this issue happen again. Most people do not the importance of drinking at the least 2 Liters of water a day, that is what I drink weighing 120 pounds at 5’5’’. You should also be in taking your body weight in protein, so in other words I should to grow more muscle eat 120 grams of protein a day. We need 1 gram of protein per 1 pound of weight. I also see people going 90 miles an hour and that includes me. One of the best changes that I made my life was taking The Art of Living and no, this is not a religious cult. It is by far one of the finest breathing and meditation courses from India. I know Meditate and Prana Breath almost every day for 45 minutes. The results for many people that I know have taken the course was their anxiety disappeared, they went off high blood pressure medication, their stress level decreased by more than half and they had a way to remove stress completely from their bodies. What makes me laugh is I would pay for the information above and I wonder how many people will even Google The Art of Living. The great thing is I know that my clients and my friends that have gone and taken a course can thank me enough. I have to understand they were already to get better and to find tools to help them do so.
My hope for you and myself is that we all continue to grow, heal and help to heal this planet. That we remember that every animal on this planet deserves respect and love, I’m not just talking about our pets, I am talking about how farm animals are treated and how we can take a stand and speak up by our meat intake. This is not only for the animals, although it is for me. I think if most of you understood in the amount of God knows what that is injected into these animals you would want to eat them. I will continue to not to fight because fighting just causes more fighting. I will continue to talk to people about eating less meat and watching some videos that show you what is really done to animals in farms, in China and how animals are skinned alive for their fur, so you can look glamorous. I no longer buy leather unless I decide to move to Alaska I really feel no need to wear fur or to mount a head of an animal on my wall. We can all make such a difference; again this is your choice!
